Ozark Pupdate

Ozark had his spleen removed yesterday, and is doing well, despite a bit of a setback yesterday. Turns out he was very sensitive to the anesthesia, and it took him about 4 times longer than I'd have expected for him to be fully awake. But rather than tell the whole story again here, and re-post pictures, I'll send you to the post I wrote today for our clinic blog. (Warning: Graphic medical-type pictures included.)

Glad he's doing okay!

When we had our other dog Francis, it took him a long time to come off anesthesia, too. he couldn't walk and was bumping into walls. it was awful. then he finally slept it off.

Lori, I am constantly amazed at the resilience of our animal companions. Duncan was running and playing hours after he was neutered. But then after The Great Yarn Crisis of 2006, when he was having such a difficult time, I was just as amazed at how vulnerable they are, how "human" they seem in such times.

The pictures were incredible, and I too was shocked at the thickness of his body.

He's in good hands and I know he'll be up and running in no time. I'm just thankful he's in such good hands. I wish I could make your clinic Duncan's primary care facility. I'd rest easy.

You and your staff are truly remarkable people. It's the rare doctor who is able to think outside the box. I'm sure you've taken nothing for granted and are well aware of your blessings, but just in case, count them once again before going to bed.

And give that precious boy a good ear scritch from me.
